Karnataka Marriage Bureau – Rituals In Karnataka Everyone Should Know

Interesting Facts about the Karnataka Matrimony

As we all know, Karnataka is a South Indian state comprising predominantly of Hindus. The marriage traditions in Karnataka are typical Hindu traditions with some modifications followed in the state. The initial stage of marriage will be finding the best bride or the groom. Most of these selections are done through Kannadamarriage bureau brokers or Kannada matrimonial profiles at MatchFinder by the family members. There will also be some cases of love and arranged marriages where the couple encounter their partners themselves. The Kannada matrimony can be divided into three important stages as the pre-wedding ceremony, wedding ceremony, and the post-wedding ceremony.

The Pre-wedding ceremony

“Nischay Tamulam”, which is a confirmation of the alliance, is the initiating event of a Kannada marriage. The Nischay Tamulam is followed by the engagement function. Then both the bride and the groom is applied with turmeric liquid with a mix of other holy items.

The next ritual is a fun act of “Kaashi Yatra”. In this act, the groom will be packing his things up to go to Kaasi, a northern holy town to become a Sanyasi, a permanent bachelor leaving all the luxuries and relationships back at his home. He will be convinced by the bride’s father and uncle after some time to cancel his plan to Kaasi and stay back home and continue the marriage. This ritual is a fun activity done as per the laws of Manu.

The next ritual in the pre-wedding is the worship of Lord Ganesh with the items needed for a pooja.

The Wedding Ceremony

The actual wedding in Karnataka traditions is almost similar to that of any Hindu wedding ceremony. At first, the bride’s father will do Paatha Pooja that is the washing of the groom’s feet. After the paatha pooja the bride will sit alongside the groom before the sacred fire. Then the groom ties the Mangalsutra, a holy thread around the bride’s neck which is the symbol of a woman to show that she is married. Then the couple is asked to take seven rounds around the sacred fire to complete their marriage. The final event will be the serving of food to the guests and relatives.

The Post-Wedding ceremony

Griha Pravesh is the next ritual after the marriage. In this ritual, the bride is welcomed by the groom’s mother with Aarti at the groom’s house. To make the bride feel comfortable some games will be conducted. Then the bride is allowed to enter the house with her right foot first and asked to kick a bowl of rice to spill the rice out. Then the name change function follows in which the bride is given a new name by the groom. The name is written on a plate with rice using a ring or something. The groom can choose any name of his choice for the bride.

Conclusion

Although the modern-day Karnataka is getting influenced by western culture, the typical Karnataka Hindu marriage traditions are still followed in most of the areas. Kannada marriage is a special attraction in the Hindu marriage traditions around the country.
